Auberge de la Providence in Saint Donat is located in the Puy-de-Dôme department, in the heart of the Central Massif in Auvergne. It is a beautiful mountain area (volcanic) with plenty of sports and tourist activities.
At our Auberge, you are guaranteed a warm atmosphere where you will feel right at home! The auberge is open all year round and has five large rooms with en suite bathrooms. In our cozy restaurant, we serve a varied selection of Auvergne and international dishes.
Our two dogs, Truus and Joep, are part of our family, and your dog or dogs are also welcome!

Social distancing is our way of life!
This is a land of wide open spaces, lots of cows and far fewer people! There are many signposted walking routes and magnificent scenery.
The restaurant
In our cozy restaurant with a large fireplace and a sunny terrace on the Place de l’Église, we serve a varied selection of Auvergne and international dishes. All our dishes are homemade by Caroline using fresh and unprocessed ingredients. All our dishes are homemade by Caroline from fresh ingredients!
Our menu changes regularly based on the season, availability of products from our garden and the local market, and the Chef’s inspiration!
We always offer at least two vegetarian appetizers and two vegetarian main courses for vegetarians.
Moreover, our inn is ideal for your business and private functions such as weddings, birthdays, meetings, etc.
The rooms
Auberge de la Providence is open year-round and has four large rooms with private bathrooms. The rooms have been fully renovated and beautifully decorated.
We offer two rooms with a double bed and a single bed, one room with a double bed and two bunk beds, and a large family room (2 rooms) with a double bed and two single beds. Each room has a separate area that can be used as a sitting area or for additional beds.
Activities and Attractions
The village of Saint Donat is located in the middle of the beautiful Parc Naturel Régional des Volcans, west of Clermont-Ferrand, between Picherande and La Tour d’Auvergne. We are close to the ski slopes of Chastreix and Super-Besse and less than 30 minutes away from Besse, La Bourboule, Saint Nectaire, Lac Chambon, Bort les Orgues, and Le Mont Dore. Saint Donat is situated at an altitude of 1050 meters, and from our terrace on the village square, you have a magnificent view of the Puy de Sancy, the highest point of the Central Massif (1886 m).
Throughout the year, the region offers beautiful hikes, bike rides, and mountain bike trails for all levels, cycling or mountain biking along and through the long-extinct craters.
The many lakes, waterfalls, and rivers (the Dordogne River originates in the Puy de Sancy) provide ample opportunities for water activities such as swimming, sailing, kayaking, etc., as well as fishing.
In winter the ski resorts of Super-Besse and Chastreix-Sancy are just a ten-minute drive away. Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing routes start within 5 minutes of Saint Donat! Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing trails start just 5 minutes from Saint Donat!
This region is known for its roads and mountain passes that are ideal for cycling in the medium mountains. The famous cols, often included in the Tour de France route, such as Col de la Croix Saint-Robert, Col de la Croix Morand, Col de la Geneste, Super-Besse, Pas de Peyrol/Puy Mary, etc., are all easily accessible from the inn.
The region also offers ample opportunities for more specialized sports activities such as paragliding, canyoning, and climbing.
Furthermore, the spa towns of La Bourboule and Le Mont-Dore are within easy reach of Saint Donat, so a day of pampering in one of the traditional spas is also possible.
